Training/Education Division Field Training Staff Field Training Officers (FTOs) are paramedics with additional assigned duties in the areas of education, training, and quality improvement.  FTOs teach continuing education classes, facilitate skills practice and skills competency evaluations.  They assist the Training Officer in reviewing patient care protocols as well as assisting with the research and development of protocols for new procedures, medications, and skills for implementation.  FTOs review patient care and the associated documentation while seeking opportunities for system improvements.  FTOs at Union EMS are selected through a competitive interview/assessment center process where candidates demonstrate their ability to complete a variety of job related tasks.
